FORESTRY TOOL KITS: Frequently Asked Questions
FORESTRY TOOL KITS: Frequently Asked Questions
How many tool kits are available to borrow, and where can I find them?
We have three tool kits, hosted at three different county Soil & Water Conservation Districts: Holmes, Richland, and Geauga. You do not have to be a resident of the county from which you would like to borrow the tool kit.
What is in each tool kit?
Each tool kit is contained within a 5-gallon bucket, which has a "bucket boss" tool organizer. The bucket includes one of each tool: soil knife, folding saw, ratcheting hand pruners, ratcheting loppers, bypass loppers, telescopic handle angled loppers, a reusable yard waste bag, and sharpening and cleaning supplies. Each tool kit also contains a weed-wrench "extractigator", but this is offered alongside the bucket as it is too large to fit inside. When you pick up your tool kit, you have the option to take only some of the tools with you. You do not have to borrow the entire tool kit.
Are these tool kits free to borrow?
Our tool kits are free to borrow but do require a refundable $50 deposit.
You will pay this deposit to Holden Forests & Gardens at the time of your reservation using a credit/debit card. If you prefer to reserve your tool kit over the phone using a credit/debit card, this option exists with Holmes or Richland Soil & Water Conservation Districts. If you do not want to use a credit/debit card for your reservation, Holmes Soil & Water Conservation District is able to accept cash or personal cheque when the tool kit is reserved over the phone or in-person.
The depoisit will be refunded after the tool kit has been returned, pending damage or loss. You can learn more by reading through our LENDING POLICIES.
How long can I borrow a tool kit for?
Our tool kits are available for pick-up on the first and third Friday of each month from Richland and Holmes. Our tool kit at Geauga is available for pick-up on the first and third Thursday of each month. They are due for return the following Monday, 10-days (Richland & Holmes) or 11-days (Geauga) later.
At this time, we do not offer extensions or renewals, although you are welcome to reserve a tool kit for multiple periods if you would like to. You will set up the pick-up and drop-off times directly with the host site from which you are borrowing the tool kit. To see the time windows for each host site, please visit our Reserve a Tool Kit page.
